Biography: BA-BRI

Robert Fiedler, BA-BRI.Robert Fiedler (email): After taking an Auxiliary PE course Robert joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1974 in what was then the Third Coast Guard District. He found he had a fondness for teaching and on water activities: to develop each of these pursuits additional training was required. Because of his commitment as a Coxswain the Delaware DNR presented him their Community Service Award for Outstanding Excellence and Achievement.

Since then he has achieved AUXOP, completed courses AUXLEA and APC in 1985, held the elected offices of Division Captain 1991 to 1992 and President, PCA 1998 to 1999 each in 5SR, he has been member of District Awards Committee since 1994, an Instructor since 1983, Boat crew Coxswain since 1980, QE since 1989, served on National Operations Staff for 4 years in the 1980’s, attended AUX10 “C” School in 2005 and presently holds the office of DSO-IS since 2003 in addition to his new position as BA-BRI.

As DSO-IS 5SR he authored the “AUXDATA for Elected Officers” Guide and created the corresponding workshop. Additionally, he wrote an article for the “BLINKER”: “Finding Yourself, A FICTIONAL STORY, OR IS IT?” This informational story relates to the use of AUXINFO.

From 1965 to 1997 he held a series of increasingly responsible positions culminating in the position of Account Manager for Du Pont Advanced Material Systems Strategic Business Unit. In this assignment he was accountable for providing highly productive and cost effective business solutions as support management to 60 engineers and 200+ plant personnel for critical computer controlled manufacturing systems that provided finished products to the American Space Program. Other assignments during his tenure with Du Pont included field services engineer for three polymer-manufacturing sites, team supervisor for developing the manufacturing site for Corian™ in Buffalo, NY. In 1997 the Du Pont Company formed an alliance with Computer Sciences Corp. and outsourced the information technologies business, of which Rob was an employee. In this new business he managed 11 Project Consultants on successful project delivery, end-to-end service, progress tracking, problem escalation, communication and work prioritization of the alliance’s global managed print environment.

In 2003 he chose to retire from the private sector after 35+ years of progressively responsible experience and visible achievements in strategic planning: multi-unit operations and customer support. Shortly after retiring from CSC he needed something to occupy his time, which turned out to be an assistant manager for West Marine in North East, Maryland where he still works today. Rob lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, near Chesapeake City.
